Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several of the assailants and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
The military disclosed that the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when terrorists attempted to infiltrate the base under the cover of darkness.
According to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, vigilant troops detected the advancing terrorists early and engaged them with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat with heavy casualties.

He explained that troops immediately reinforced the position and launched a pursuit of the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted some residents from the surrounding community during the attack.
“The relentless pursuit by the troops led to the rescue of nine abducted locals, who were safely recovered,” Osoba stated.
The military, however, confirmed that one Army officer and one Police officer were killed during the fierce gun battle, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured personnel were airlifted for advanced medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
Osoba dismissed online reports claiming that six security personnel lost their lives, describing the information as false.
He clarified that only one Army officer and one police officer were killed in the operation.
He added that troops have secured and dominated the area and are conducting exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties while ensuring the safety of residents.
According to the military, the failed attack represents another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, as sustained military offensives continue to degrade their operational capability and freedom of movement.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the region.
