The Federal Government has appointed substantive provosts for three Federal Colleges of Agriculture as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural education and advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security agenda.
The appointments, approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abba Kyari, followed what the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) described as a rigorous selection process involving examinations and interviews.
The newly appointed provosts are Dr. Folorunsho Rasheed Oloyede for the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure; Dr. Salisu Salisu for the Federal College of Agriculture and Produce Technology, Kano; and Dr. Umar Umar Abdullahi for the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.
Presenting the appointment letters in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Dabban, urged the new chief executives to align their administration with the Federal Government’s drive to achieve food security.
He charged them to “key into the food security agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through making the colleges a citadel of knowledge.”
Dabban also urged the appointees to demonstrate professionalism, diligence and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
According to him, they should pursue ambitious programmes aimed at improving institutional governance, enhancing research capacity, strengthening collaboration with stakeholders, promoting staff welfare and advancing Nigeria’s National Agricultural Research System.
