The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 11 suspects and recovered two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms and 25 ATM cards during an 11-day security operation across the state.
The command said the operations, conducted between September 16 and 26, also led to the recovery of several mobile phones and electrical materials, while eight vehicles were impounded for allegedly obstructing traffic around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, in a statement on Sunday, said the results followed targeted operations and intelligence-led policing across different divisions of the command.
In one of the operations, detectives at Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki Village on September 17, following a complaint lodged the previous day.
Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while police said an accomplice identified as Saheed remained at large.
At Olorunda Division, two suspects, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested after police intercepted three persons allegedly conveying stolen electrical materials along Ayetoro Road.
Police said the recovered items included bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box, allegedly stolen from a residence in the area. Another suspect, identified as Tosin, reportedly escaped.
Three other suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, Base 7, Abule-Iroko, after an unregistered tricycle and TVS motorcycle were intercepted around Dalemo, Ota.
The suspects Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30 were allegedly linked to vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis, according to the police.
In another case, operatives of Igbesa Division arrested Ameachine Anthony, 45, over an alleged ₦2.5 million fraud and recovered 25 ATM cards and several mobile phones.
Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly used utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards, through associates, to facilitate bank accounts before collecting the ATM cards for alleged fraudulent transactions.
The suspect and recovered items were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation.
The command also reported the arrest of two suspected cult members and the recovery of three firearms.
According to the police, SWAT operatives first arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, on September 22 following information about a suspected cult-related gathering.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq, 36, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.
Police said investigations were continuing to determine the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and identify other persons who may be connected to the case.
In Ijebu-Ode, detectives recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested Olatunji Olalekan following what the command described as discreet investigation, intelligence gathering and tracking.
The vehicle has been secured as an exhibit as police investigate the circumstances surrounding its disappearance and recovery.
Meanwhile, eight vehicles were impounded on September 26 during a “No Parking” operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.
The operation, conducted by personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions, targeted vehicles allegedly obstructing the highway and was aimed at easing traffic and improving safety for road users.
The affected vehicles are expected to be processed for prosecution on September 28.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism and thanked members of the public for their cooperation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on security threats.
