The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has charged Nigerian Army personnel undergoing elite training to remain focused and fully prepared for special missions critical to national security.
The charge was given during the COAS’s operational visit to 18 Brigade, where he inspected the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces (DHQ SOF) training facility in Bida.
In a statement issued by Army Headquarters, the Army Chief said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen elite operational readiness.
The COAS observed ongoing training of selected personnel currently undergoing Special Operations Forces (SOF) training with the Defence Special Operations Forces Training Group.
He was briefed on the design, scope and objectives of the intensive programme aimed at producing highly skilled and mission-ready special forces operators.
Commending the training team, the Army Chief described the level of discipline and professionalism displayed as a reflection of the standards required for elite operations.
“Special operations forces must always be prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to complex security threats,” the COAS said.
He urged the trainees to give their best throughout the course, reminding them that elite forces play a decisive role in safeguarding national security.
“You must be ready to undertake special tasks immediately upon graduation. There is no room for complacency,” he added.
Earlier, the Commander, DHQ SOF Brigade, Brigadier General Sani Usman Ibrahim, briefed the COAS on the Brigade’s activities and progress recorded in the training.
He outlined the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining high standards in the selection and training of elite forces.
The visit ended with the presentation of a souvenir to the COAS by the Brigade Commander, symbolising the importance of the inspection and engagement.
