The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) on Saturday staged a Golf Kitty in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.
The event took place at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club within the Yar’Adua Barracks, Asokoro.
It attracted senior military officers, defence stakeholders, and golf enthusiasts in a symbolic blend of remembrance and sportsmanship.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), said the Remembrance Day honours serving personnel, veterans, wounded soldiers, and fallen heroes.
He noted that the annual commemoration highlights the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces in defending Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity.
General Musa said sporting events such as the Golf Kitty promote physical fitness, mental resilience, and unity within the military.
He added that such gatherings strengthen bonds and encourage esprit de corps among personnel.
The Defence Minister applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his continued support and commitment to improving military welfare.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, praised troops for their dedication and professionalism across all operations.
He urged Nigerians to sustain their support for the Armed Forces, stressing that security is a shared responsibility.
Brigadier General Nicholas Ashinze disclosed that over 100 golfers participated, describing the event as a major honour for the club.
The ceremony concluded with awards, souvenirs, and group photographs celebrating Nigeria’s military heroes.
