The UBA Foundation, which serves as the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has significantly scaled up its humanitarian efforts across the continent, providing essential relief to vulnerable populations in Nigeria and 19 other African nations. Between November 2025 and January 2026, the Foundation’s “Food Bank” and “Giving Back” initiatives distributed food items, school supplies, and financial aid to over 100,000 individuals, including school children, orphans, and internally displaced persons (IDPs). This large-scale intervention was specifically designed to alleviate the economic hardships typically faced by families during the end-of-year transition and the resumption of the school calendar.
Mrs. Bola Atta, the Managing Director and CEO of the UBA Foundation, personally oversaw various outreach activities, including a visit to the Destitute Home in Okobaba, Lagos. She emphasized that the Foundation’s mission extends beyond mere charity, focusing on restoring hope and providing the nutritional and educational tools necessary for children and families to thrive. In Nigeria, the outreach spanned all geopolitical zones, reaching orphanages and IDP camps in states such as Borno, Niger, Abia, and Lagos. Notable beneficiaries included the Daughter of Mercy Mother of Mary Orphanage and the Trinitarian Foundation for Orphans, among many others.
The impact of the initiative was felt across the broader African continent, with similar programs executed in countries ranging from Ghana and Kenya to Senegal and Zambia. By replicating these efforts in every country where UBA operates, the Foundation has reinforced its position as a leader in pan-African philanthropy. Mrs. Atta noted that these interventions are strategically designed to support both physical wellbeing and cognitive development, ensuring that the nourishment provided helps beneficiaries reach their full potential.
This recent drive is part of a sustained tradition of social investment by the UBA Foundation, which also manages the National Essay Competition, the Read Africa Project, and various health and environmental sustainability programs. By focusing on education, economic empowerment, and special development projects, the Foundation continues to fulfill its mandate of uplifting communities and fostering long-term resilience across Africa.
