Twelve kidnapped civilians have regained their freedom after troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA stormed the scenes of two separate terrorist operations in Zamfara State, rescuing six victims from an occupied residence and saving another six during an attempted roadside abduction.
The Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel ALIYU DANJA, disclosed the operations in a statement issued on September 8, 2026.
He said the operations were carried out on September 7 in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state, according to the Joint Task Force (North West).
At Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, troops moved in after receiving a distress call that terrorists had infiltrated a residence and taken civilians hostage.
The intervention forced the attackers to abandon six of their victims and flee across a nearby river as the troops closed in.
The six rescued civilians were evacuated to safety and later reunited with their families.
In another operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route spotted terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni Village.
The soldiers immediately moved towards the area and engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the operation and retreat into the adjoining bush.
Six civilians were subsequently rescued.
The two operations highlight the growing pressure being mounted by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA against terrorist groups operating across the Joint Operations Area, particularly their attempts to abduct civilians and disrupt movement along major routes.
The operation said the interventions were part of ongoing efforts to protect lives and property, disrupt terrorist activities and deny the groups the freedom to operate.
It also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing security agencies with credible information that could assist in tracking and eliminating terrorist elements within the Joint Operations Area.
