Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist operation in Kaduna State, recovering an AK-47 rifle and 13 rounds of ammunition during an ambush in Kachia Local Government Area.
The troops also arrested a suspected criminal in a separate operation in the area and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt Col Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, saying the operations were conducted between September 23 and 24, 2026.
Danja said troops of Sector 1, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists through the bushes around Rijana in Kachia LGA, swiftly mobilised to the area on September 23 and laid an ambush.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists after sighting them, forcing them to flee the area.
Following the encounter, Danja said the troops conducted a follow-up exploitation of the general area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier and a military jungle hat, among other items.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 1 conducted a clearance operation at Awom village in Kachia LGA to deny terrorists and other criminal elements freedom of action and safe haven within the community.
Danja said the operation led to the arrest of a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
“The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation,” he said.
The Media Information Officer said the operations formed part of the ongoing efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities within the Joint Operations Area.
He commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response during the operations.
Danja said the troops remained resolute in sustaining offensive and clearance operations to thwart terrorist activities and safeguard communities across the Joint Operations Area.
