Tinubu Tasks IGP’s Wife On Welfare Of Police Families

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has charged the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, Mrs Mutiat Disu, to prioritise the welfare and empowerment of police officers’ families across the country.

 

Mrs Disu, who is married to the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, paid a courtesy visit to the First Lady at the State House, Abuja, where both women held a closed-door meeting focused on social intervention and support programmes.

 

Speaking after the meeting, Mrs Mutiat Disu expressed readiness to leverage the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to enhance the welfare, health and economic empowerment of police officers’ wives nationwide.

 

She noted that her visit was aimed at drawing from the First Lady’s wealth of experience and exploring opportunities for collaboration that would benefit members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), where she currently serves as National President.

 

According to her, the interaction has provided valuable insights into programmes that could be adapted to support police families, particularly in areas of healthcare and social intervention.

 

Mrs Disu assured that under her leadership, POWA would work closely with the Renewed Hope Initiative to improve the living conditions of its members, stressing that women remain at the centre of both organisations’ focus.

 

She further pledged commitment to ensuring that police officers’ wives across the country benefit meaningfully from the initiative’s programmes.

 

Mrs Disu assumed leadership of POWA following the appointment of her husband, Tunji Disu, as Inspector-General of Police on February 24, 2026, succeeding Kayode Egbetokun.
