The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the deployment of Commissioner of Police Edwin Ogbeghagha as the new Commissioner of Police for the Taraba State Command, charging him to uphold neutrality and professionalism ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The Commission gave the charge during a comprehensive interview session held at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, and presided over by the Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), mni.
The PSC said the new Taraba police commissioner must demonstrate exceptional professionalism and impartiality in the discharge of his responsibilities, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
According to the Commission, CP Ogbeghagha’s new responsibility requires a strong commitment to public safety, neutrality and professional policing, stressing the importance of maintaining public confidence in the police ahead of the elections.
Ogbeghagha, who has over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, was until his new posting the Force Provost Marshal at Force Headquarters, Abuja, a position he has held since March 2026.
An alumnus of the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a B.Sc. Hons in 1990, the new Taraba police commissioner has held several strategic command and operational positions during his career.
His previous appointments include Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations for Zones 8 and 17; Area Commander in Enugu, Abia and Anambra States; and Commissioner of Police for Community Policing at Force Headquarters.
He has also gained international policing experience through United Nations peacekeeping missions in Kosovo between 2000 and 2002, and Darfur, Sudan, from 2013 to 2016.
The approval and posting process also involved Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (JSC, Rtd), Commissioner I, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Esq., Secretary to the Commission.
The PSC said the deployment forms part of its responsibility to ensure effective leadership and professional policing across the country as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
