Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered two fabricated pistols and suspected cult-related items after two young men abandoned their motorcycle and fled into a nearby bush while attempting to evade arrest during a routine patrol in Awka North Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the recovery was made on August 13 by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during a patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge, where the suspects were spotted riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number.
According to the Police, the suspects made a sudden U-turn on sighting the patrol team in what officers considered an attempt to escape, prompting the operatives to pursue them.
The chase ended when the suspects reportedly lost control of the motorcycle, fell and fled into a nearby bush, abandoning the motorcycle, a bag and two slippers.
A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing inscriptions associated with the Vikings Confraternity.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the identities of the fleeing suspects, determine their affiliations and unravel the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearms and other items.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reiterated the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols and other operational strategies aimed at disrupting criminal activities and improving public safety across the state.
He also directed operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and conclude investigations into the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the recovery reflects the Command’s continued operational drive against violent crime and assured residents that ongoing security operations would be sustained to deny criminal elements the freedom to operate within the state.
