Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms during a routine patrol in the Igando area of the state.
The Command said the arrest was part of its ongoing operations aimed at combating crime and criminality across Lagos.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspect, identified as Olajunja Segun Samson, 29, was apprehended after a police patrol team intercepted a motorcycle carrying three men behaving suspiciously.
The police said the suspects attempted to flee on sighting the patrol team, but Samson was arrested while two of his accomplices escaped, abandoning the motorcycle.
A search conducted on the suspect and the abandoned motorcycle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and assorted charms.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and conclude investigations.
Commending the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of residents.
He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime prevention and facilitate the arrest of criminal elements.
The command also encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines to enable prompt police response.
