Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a man, Eric Nwombu, for allegedly impersonating a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board coordinator and unlawfully possessing examination materials.

‎The suspect was arrested on April 14 in Atani by officers attached to the Inspector-General of Police Safe School Initiative.

‎According to a statement on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, items recovered from the suspect included eight JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of students.

‎Ikenga said the arrest followed a report that the suspect was collecting examination slips from candidates who visited a cyber café to check their examination centres.

‎“Upon inquiry, the suspect allegedly claimed to be a JAMB 2026 coordinator in Atani,” the statement said.

‎The police spokesperson added that staff of the computer centre, who became suspicious of his claim, alerted security operatives.

‎He noted that the suspect attempted to flee on sighting the police but was apprehended.

‎The police said investigations had commenced and the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.

‎The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public examinations and urged residents to report suspicious activities.
