The Ogun State Police Command has recorded another operational success following the recovery of a stolen Toyota RAV4 vehicle and its subsequent return to the rightful owner in Abeokuta.
The silver-coloured Toyota RAV4 Jeep was recovered by operatives attached to the Obantoko Division of the command during a routine patrol exercise in the Somorin area of Obantoko.
The recovery was carried out on January 17, 2026, by the Obantoko Division Surveillance Team after the vehicle was sighted abandoned under suspicious circumstances.
Police sources confirmed that the vehicle was immediately secured at the division pending identification and verification of ownership.
Following standard police procedure, information about the recovered vehicle was disseminated within and outside the command to enable the rightful owner to come forward.
Upon presentation of relevant documents and thorough verification, the claimant was confirmed as the lawful owner of the vehicle.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Obantoko Division, thereafter formally handed over the vehicle, including its keys and documents, to the owner.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said the recovery underscored the command’s commitment to proactive policing.
“The vehicle was recovered during a routine patrol, secured at the station, and only released after proper verification of ownership documents,” Babaseyi stated.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, as commending the officers involved for their professionalism and vigilance.
“The Commissioner of Police has praised the Obantoko Division Surveillance Team for their swift response and urges all officers to sustain high standards of vigilance and community-oriented policing in the protection of lives and property,” the police spokesperson added.
