Ogun Police Nab Suspects Linked to Edo Kidnap-Murder, Recover Police Camouflage
By Odita Sunday
The Ogun State Police Command has uncovered two suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping and murder of two hostages in Edo State, in a breakthrough that has exposed what investigators describe as a wider criminal network operating across state lines.
The suspects, arrested in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode, were identified as Gafaru Adamu, 25, and Muhammed Sanni, 20.
Police investigations revealed that both men are wanted in connection with an ongoing kidnapping and murder case reported in the Okada area of Edo State.
The development followed intelligence-driven investigations by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit after personnel of the Nigeria Forest Security Service apprehended the suspects, leading to further profiling and inquiries by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to the Command, preliminary findings indicate that the suspects are members of a seven-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the Edo State incident.
During the investigation, operatives recovered a pair of police camouflage uniform and three mobile phones from the suspects. The items have been documented and taken into custody as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
Police authorities disclosed that the offences under investigation were committed outside Ogun State and, in line with inter-state policing procedures, the suspects and recovered exhibits will be transferred to the Edo State Police Command, which has jurisdiction over the case, for further investigation and legal action.
Commending the operatives involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, praised their professionalism, diligence and intelligence-gathering efforts, which led to the identification of the suspects and recovery of critical exhibits.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State does not serve as a refuge or transit point for criminal elements, stressing that intelligence-led policing and strategic collaboration with other state commands would continue to be strengthened.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information to aid the fight against crime and criminality.
The case has now been handed over for further investigation as authorities intensify efforts to track down other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate.
