The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, describing his sudden demise at the age of 56 as a huge loss to the Nigerian media industry.
The Council, in a condolence statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, said it received news of Oladipo’s death with shock and sadness, describing him as a committed journalist, media entrepreneur and respected colleague whose contributions to the profession, particularly digital journalism, would not be forgotten.
“The NUJ FCT Council is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Dotun Oladipo, a committed journalist, media entrepreneur, and respected colleague whose contributions to journalism, especially digital media, will remain memorable,” the statement said.
The Council said Oladipo distinguished himself throughout his career through dedication, professionalism and a strong commitment to the growth and development of journalism in Nigeria.
It said his death had created a significant vacuum in the media industry, particularly among practitioners who had witnessed his contributions to the evolution of digital journalism.
The NUJ FCT Council extended its condolences to Oladipo’s wife, children and other members of his family, as well as his colleagues at The Eagle Online and the wider Nigerian media community.
The Council prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and asked God to grant his family, colleagues and other mourners the strength to bear the loss.
It further said Oladipo’s legacy of courage, professionalism and service to journalism would continue to inspire both practising and younger journalists for years to come.
