The Nigerian Navy has once again demonstrated its rapid emergency response capability after personnel of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO rescued two 16-year-old boys from drowning following a boat mishap in Egweama Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The rescue, which occurred on Monday, July 28, 2026, saw naval personnel swiftly intervene after spotting the distressed teenagers whose wooden boat had capsized while they were returning from a routine trip along the community’s waterways. The statement was issued on Tuesday by the Director Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.
According to the Nigerian Navy, the boat overturned due to adverse water conditions, leaving the teenagers stranded and at imminent risk of drowning.
The statement said personnel of FOB FORMOSO immediately launched a rescue operation, successfully evacuating the victims to safety before providing them with necessary assistance and medical attention to assess their condition.
It noted that the successful operation reflects the professionalism, vigilance and operational readiness of Nigerian Navy personnel in safeguarding lives within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
The Navy further stated that the rescue underscores its unwavering commitment to maritime safety, search-and-rescue operations and the protection of lives in coastal and riverine communities.
It added that the intervention also reinforces the Service’s sustained efforts to strengthen relationships with host communities through responsive, people-oriented operations while ensuring the safety of legitimate users of the nation’s waterways.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its constitutional mandate of securing Nigeria’s maritime domain and protecting lives across the country’s coastal and inland waterways.
