Nigeria and Thailand have strengthened bilateral cooperation in agriculture with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting agricultural research, innovation, technology transfer and capacity building.
The Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Dabban, said international partnerships were crucial to advancing Nigeria’s agricultural sector through knowledge exchange, modern technologies, research collaboration and human-capacity development.
Dabban stated this on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Lekki Room, Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel, Lagos, during the signing of the MoU and the launch of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) collaboration.
He said stronger partnerships between Nigerian and Thai institutions would provide opportunities for researchers, farmers and other agricultural stakeholders to benefit from innovative approaches and practical solutions to challenges confronting food production and agricultural development.
According to him, the ARCN remains committed to supporting partnerships that promote agricultural research, innovation and technology transfer while contributing to Nigeria’s food security agenda.
Also speaking, the Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Cooperative College, Oji River, Enugu State, Dr. Jude Ejikeme Obidiegwu, said the partnership was designed to achieve sustainable impact by targeting host communities, students, farmers, cooperative societies, the private sector and innovators.
Obidiegwu, in his address titled, “Insights into the Thai-Nigeria Collaborative Framework,” highlighted the history of engagements and communications between Nigeria and Thailand that culminated in the collaboration.
He said the initiative would provide a platform for stakeholders to leverage cooperative innovation and strengthen agricultural development through knowledge sharing and practical interventions.
The ARCN said the signing ceremony and TICA launch marked a significant milestone in deepening Nigeria-Thailand cooperation while building a more productive, resilient and technology-driven agricultural sector.
The council said the collaboration would strengthen agricultural research and innovation, facilitate technology transfer and capacity building, promote agricultural entrepreneurship and support the food security agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
