The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), operating under the joint task force of Operation HADIN KAI, has recorded a major operational breakthrough following a successful air interdiction mission against terrorist elements in AbbagaJiri, within the notorious Timbuktu Triangle of the North East.
The precision air operation, conducted on 8 January 2026, was based on actionable, multi-source intelligence that confirmed the presence of active terrorist fighters, fortified structures, and concealed logistics hubs in the area. Acting swiftly, NAF air assets were deployed in coordinated surveillance and strike roles, delivering decisive blows to identified targets.
The air strikes, executed in strict compliance with established rules of engagement and the protection of non-combatants, were deliberately aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities, denying them sanctuary, and shaping the battlespace to enable ground forces advance.
Confirming the success of the operation, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the mission underscored the Nigerian Air Force’s determination to dominate the airspace in support of joint operations.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering precise and decisive airpower in support of ground forces. We will continue to deny terrorists freedom of movement, sanctuary, and logistics wherever they seek to hide,” Air Marshal Aneke stated.
NAF strikes reportedly destroyed identified terrorist structures, significantly disrupting their operations. A follow-up engagement further neutralised armed elements observed converging on the location, effectively crippling attempts at regrouping.
Subsequent advances by ground troops into the area confirmed the devastating impact of the air strikes, validating the effectiveness of the joint air-land operation and clearing the way for sustained ground offensives within the Timbuktu Triangle.
Reaffirming the Service’s resolve, the CAS stressed that NAF operations would remain relentless and intelligence-driven.
“Our operations are carefully planned and intelligence-led, ensuring maximum effect on hostile elements while safeguarding innocent civilians. The Nigerian Air Force will sustain pressure until terrorist networks are completely dismantled,” he added.
The latest operation highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s aggressive posture, precision employment of airpower, and critical role in enabling ground forces to maintain momentum against terrorist networks threatening lives, property, and Nigeria’s national security.
