The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its role in international peacekeeping and global security efforts.
Musa stated this on Tuesday in New York after attending the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led the Nigerian delegation to the global gathering.
Following the opening session at the United Nations Headquarters, the Defence Minister paid an operational visit to the Defence Section of Nigeria’s Permanent Mission to the UN.
During the visit, Musa received a briefing from the Defence Attaché, Brig. Gen. EA Koleosho, on the section’s strategic activities and operational commitments.
The Minister commended Koleosho and his team for what he described as their professionalism, loyalty and commitment to upholding the ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Musa reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore and expand Nigeria’s active participation in international peace and security initiatives.
He said the administration remained committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations across the world as part of efforts to promote stability and security.
The Minister’s visit underscored the strategic importance attached by Nigeria to its role in multilateral security engagements and international peacekeeping operations.
