The Lagos State Police Command has commenced disciplinary action against an Inspector of Police identified as Osumah Frank, following his appearance in a viral video in which he was seen making inappropriate remarks while travelling in a public transport vehicle.
The Command, in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on Thursday, said the officer had been identified following the circulation of the video on social media.
According to the statement, the Command took the step in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability and would subject the Inspector to appropriate disciplinary proceedings in accordance with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Command stressed that the remarks made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and did not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reiterated that police personnel were expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.
Fatai said wearing the police uniform carried the responsibility of upholding the dignity and integrity of the Force, stressing that the Command would not condone conduct capable of bringing the police into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the institution.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and policing with humility and integrity.
