In a renewed effort to curb drug abuse and other social vices, the Lagos State Police Command, through its Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), has partnered with the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to sensitise transport operators, traders and community stakeholders on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism and election-related violence.
The awareness programme, held at the Apapa Iganmu LCDA Secretariat, brought together transport unions, market leaders, police officers and community stakeholders, with participants urged to become active partners in promoting peace, security and lawfulness within their communities.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, the Area Commander, Area B Command, ACP Onyinyechi Onwuamaegbu, called on transport operators and traders to reject all forms of criminality and support ongoing efforts to maintain public safety.
She stressed that transport workers and market communities occupy strategic positions in crime prevention and should provide timely and credible information to security agencies while ensuring that criminal elements are neither sheltered nor encouraged within their environments.
ACP Onwuamaegbu also urged participants to embrace lawful conduct and contribute to efforts aimed at preventing drug abuse, cultism and election violence, noting that sustained collaboration between the police and the public remains essential to building safer communities.
The event featured goodwill messages from the Executive Chairman of the Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Divisional Police Officers and other stakeholders, all of whom underscored the importance of collective action in tackling crime and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The sensitisation programme forms part of the Lagos State Police Command’s broader preventive policing strategy under POCACOV, which focuses on public enlightenment, youth engagement and community partnerships as key tools for reducing crime and fostering lasting peace.
