In a strategic move to strengthen internal capacity and improve service delivery, the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has organised a one-day intensive training for Area Commanders and Divisional Officers on the core mandates of the Corps.

The training, held on Tuesday at the command headquarters, focused on enhancing officers’ understanding of the NSCDC’s statutory responsibilities and equipping them with the knowledge required to tackle emerging security challenges across the state.

Addressing participants, Lagos State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, outlined the functions and mandates of the Corps as enshrined in the NSCDC Act of 2003 and its Amendment Act of 2007.

He urged officers to improve performance within their Areas of Responsibility through continuous learning and a stronger grasp of relevant laws, including the Constitution, the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, and other extant legal frameworks.

Keshinro also charged participants to intensify collaboration with stakeholders in their jurisdictions, particularly in safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, while ensuring effective execution of the Corps’ mandates in the second quarter of the year.

The lecture series covered key operational areas such as legal procedures, intelligence gathering, investigation, and protection of critical national infrastructure.

Other sessions focused on Private Guard Companies regulation, Agro Rangers operations, crisis and disaster management, as well as the Safe School Initiative.

Facilitators at the training provided in-depth analysis of the thematic areas, offering practical insights on how officers can apply the knowledge to achieve timely and efficient operational results.

Resource persons included senior officers of the command such as Deputy Commandants of Corps Olurotimi Shoyoye, Agbetiloye Kolawole, Nathaniel Koshi, Assistant Commandants Bada Adebimpe, Adenike Komaya, Aruwa Kadiri, Chief Superintendent Adedayo Awodun, and Superintendent Oluwaseun Abolurin.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos NSCDC Command to reposition the Corps for greater effectiveness in security management and public safety across the state.
