IGP Repositions SCID in Enugu, Deploys DCP Hope Isiani Okereke to Drive Evidence-Led Policing
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has deployed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Hope Isiani Okereke as the new officer in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Enugu State Command, in a move aimed at strengthening professionalism and integrity in criminal investigations.
The deployment, announced in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said DCP Okereke assumed duty on January 5, 2026, and has taken full operational and supervisory responsibility for all criminal investigations within the Enugu State Police Command.
According to Hundeyin, the posting reflects the confidence of the Nigeria Police Force leadership in Okereke’s “professional competence, investigative depth, administrative capacity and unwavering commitment to discipline, integrity and due-process policing.”
He noted that the new SCID boss brings over two decades of policing experience spanning intelligence, investigations, operational command and administration.
DCP Okereke is a graduate of Linguistics and Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt and enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on August 15, 2002, before graduating from the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, in 2004.
Her early career saw her serve as Divisional Traffic Officer in Borno State, operatives roles at the State Intelligence Bureau, and later as Divisional Crime Officer at Olu-Obasanjo Police Station in Rivers State, assignments that exposed her to frontline policing and investigative coordination.
Hundeyin stated that her record as a Divisional Police Officer in several Rivers State divisions, including Olu-Obasanjo, Abuloma and Okporo, earned her recognition for operational effectiveness, including an award as Most Outstanding Performing DPO.
On transfer to Enugu State in 2017, Okereke held key positions within the SCID and commanded strategic divisions such as Trans-Ekulu, A.I. Road and New Haven, where she strengthened discipline, administrative controls and community policing.
Following her promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2020, she served as ACP Operations at Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, and later returned to Enugu as ACP Administration, overseeing personnel management and internal control mechanisms.
“On her promotion to Deputy Commissioner of Police, the IGP found it imperative to deploy her to head the SCID, Enugu State Command, given her track record in evidence-based investigations and ethical leadership,” Hundeyin said.
He stressed that under DCP Okereke, investigations in Enugu State will be “lawful, evidence-driven, professionally defensible and fully respectful of human rights.”
