Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu has called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, diplomats, the private sector and international partners to tackle emerging cyber threats and protect Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
The IGP made the call in a goodwill message delivered at the 2nd Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy in Abuja, where he stressed that rapid technological advancement has transformed security, economic activities and international relations.
According to him, criminal networks are increasingly exploiting digital platforms and emerging technologies, making it imperative for security institutions to adopt proactive and intelligence-driven strategies.
”The Nigeria Police Force recognises that effective response requires anticipatory strategies, strong cyber capabilities and active digital diplomacy,” Disu stated.
He said the Force remains committed to identifying emerging threats before they escalate, building resilient cyber security systems and strengthening partnerships across government institutions, the private sector and international allies.
The police chief described the seminar as a critical platform for deepening understanding of evolving cyber threats, enhancing collaboration between security and diplomatic institutions and aligning Nigeria’s cyber security efforts with global best practices.
Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding the country’s digital space through intelligence-led operations, capacity building and sustained public awareness campaigns against cybercrime.
He urged participants to translate the knowledge gained at the seminar into practical policies and collaborative initiatives capable of strengthening Nigeria’s cyber resilience and protecting citizens from online fraud and other cyber-enabled crimes.
