The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks across the country as part of efforts to assess the living conditions of police personnel and their families and identify areas requiring urgent intervention.
The inspection covered residential quarters and other welfare infrastructure, with Disu engaging personnel and residents while assessing the condition of facilities and identifying key welfare challenges.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the exercise provided a broad assessment of infrastructure gaps requiring rehabilitation, urgent attention and sustained investment.
Iniedu said the inspection underscored the IGP’s commitment to personnel welfare as a critical component of ongoing police reforms, noting that decent accommodation and functional welfare facilities were essential to personnel morale, wellbeing and effective service delivery.
He said the IGP assured personnel that identified welfare needs would receive appropriate attention, adding that the exercise was designed to promote evidence-based assessment and practical interventions in addressing infrastructure deficiencies across police barracks.
The Force spokesperson quoted Disu as saying that police officers who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions.
The IGP, according to Iniedu, reiterated that improved welfare remains integral to building a motivated, professional and effective police force.
The Nigeria Police Force, he added, would continue to invest in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems for personnel and their families while strengthening officers’ capacity to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
