The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for extending financial support to families of police officers and other security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Disu gave the commendation on Thursday, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, during the presentation of financial support to families of fallen heroes under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Social Investment Programme.
The initiative, organised by the Office of the First Lady, targeted families of security personnel who died in the line of duty since the inception of the Tinubu administration.
A total of 1,638 families of deceased police officers received financial empowerment packages aimed at helping them rebuild their livelihoods and provide for their dependants.
The event was attended by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; Service Chiefs; the President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), as well as wives of heads of security agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces, Disu expressed appreciation to the President and the First Lady for the intervention, describing it as a profound demonstration of national gratitude and compassion towards families who paid the ultimate price in service to the country.
He said the Renewed Hope Initiative went beyond government policy, stressing that it represented an effort to restore dignity and stand with citizens during their most vulnerable moments.
Addressing the bereaved families, the IGP assured them that the sacrifices of their loved ones would remain etched in the memory of a grateful nation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel, including sustained support for families of officers who die in the line of duty.
