Residents of the Cable community in Ward 10, Asaba, Delta State, have commended former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, following the restoration of electricity to the area after about five years of blackout through the installation of a 500kVA transformer.
The commendation was conveyed by a community representative, Collins Egwunyenga, in a video posted on his official Facebook page, where he showcased the newly installed transformer and said power had been restored to the community after years without electricity.
According to Egwunyenga, the Cable community had been in darkness after its previous transformer developed a fault and eventually became non-functional, leaving residents and businesses without electricity for about five years.
He said the situation was brought to the attention of Elumelu, who facilitated the provision of a new 500kVA transformer for the area.
Beyond providing the transformer, Egwunyenga said Elumelu also ensured its installation, security and connection to the national grid, leading to the restoration of electricity across the five streets that make up the Cable community.
“For about five years, there was no electricity in the whole of Cable. But when the attention of Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu was drawn to the problem, he acted and electricity was restored to the area,” Egwunyenga said.
He added that residents had asked him to convey their appreciation to the former lawmaker, describing the intervention as one that had brought relief to households and businesses affected by the prolonged outage.
Egwunyenga further stated that many residents had expressed willingness to support Elumelu should he seek election to represent the constituency again in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election.
According to him, residents were optimistic that similar interventions would continue if the former lawmaker returned to public office.
The community representative also disclosed that Elumelu had previously facilitated the renovation and furnishing of the B-Division Police Station in Cable, describing the project as another intervention that enhanced security and improved public infrastructure in the area.
Residents said the restoration of electricity is expected to revive small businesses, improve economic activities and ease the hardship associated with years of unreliable power supply.
The development, they noted, has renewed hope among residents and underscored the importance of sustained investment in community infrastructure.
