Former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General (Dr.) Faruk Yahaya (rtd), has initiated legal action over what he described as false, malicious and damaging allegations linking him to terrorism financing.
General Yahaya’s move follows comments allegedly made by Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi (rtd) during an interview broadcast on Arise News, which were later amplified by online platform, Sahara Reporters. The retired Army Chief has categorically denied the claims, insisting they are baseless and injurious to his reputation and years of dedicated service to Nigeria.
In a press statement issued on his behalf by Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd), it was disclosed that Yahaya, through his legal team led by senior advocate Mohammed Ndayako, SAN, has served formal demand notices on Major General Ali-Keffi (rtd), Arise News, and Sahara Reporters.
The notices, dated December 17, 2025, grant the concerned parties a 72-hour ultimatum to retract the allegations, publish unreserved public apologies, and immediately desist from further circulation of the claims. Failure to comply, the statement warned, would compel General Yahaya to seek redress in court.
According to the statement, the legal action is not only aimed at safeguarding the former Army Chief’s personal integrity, but also at curbing the reckless spread of unverified accusations capable of eroding public trust in national institutions and individuals who have served the country with distinction.
General Yahaya reaffirmed his unwavering belief in the rule of law, accountability, professionalism, and truth, stressing that he would not allow misinformation driven by malice or personal grievances to go unchallenged.
