The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has said education remains the cornerstone of Nigeria’s national development, unity and long-term stability.
Musa stated this when the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.
He stressed that no nation can achieve sustainable development without investing in quality education that builds character, discipline and responsible citizenship.
According to him, education must extend beyond the classroom and involve a coordinated partnership among parents, teachers and communities.
“Parents and teachers are the twin pillars of a child’s development. Together, they shape values, character and future potential,” the Minister said.
He called on parents across the country to take greater responsibility for the moral guidance and discipline of their children, noting that good upbringing is fundamental to producing responsible citizens.
Musa also highlighted the importance of the Parents Teachers Association as a critical component of the School-Based Management Committee, acknowledging its consistent contributions to school governance and development.
Earlier, the National President of NAPTAN, Alhaji Haruna Danjuma, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Musa, describing the decision as timely and divinely inspired.
Danjuma said the Excellence Award presented to the Minister was in recognition of his visionary leadership, dedication to institutional reforms and sustained efforts at strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
He noted that under Musa’s leadership, the Ministry of Defence had continued to implement policies that promote national security and sustainable development.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, in his vote of thanks, congratulated the Minister and praised NAPTAN for supporting initiatives that promote discipline, patriotism and civic responsibility among youths.
