The Cross River State Police Command and the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) have agreed to deepen security collaboration and enhance police presence on and around the university campuses to tackle cultism and other emerging threats.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, following a strategic meeting between the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, and the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Prof. Francisca Bassey.
According to Akata, the meeting, held at the Command Headquarters on September 11, 2026, focused on strengthening the security architecture within and around the university, particularly against cult-related activities and other threats capable of disrupting academic activities and public safety.
He said CP Ordue assured the university management of enhanced police visibility and security presence within and around the campus, backed by intelligence-led policing, effective information sharing and prompt response to emerging security concerns.
Akata said the Police and the university also agreed to strengthen collaboration between their respective security structures to ensure early detection and response to security threats.
He said the engagement further underscored the need for students and staff to promptly report suspicious activities, cult-related threats, recruitment attempts and other security concerns through appropriate channels.
According to the PPRO, the Command would also strengthen the deployment of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) initiative within the university community, alongside other youth-focused interventions.
Akata said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bassey, commended the Commissioner for sustaining the existing security partnership between the university and the Command.
He said Bassey pledged the continued cooperation and support of the university while advocating deeper collaboration to address cultism and other emerging security challenges.
The PPRO said CP Ordue reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working closely with the university management and other stakeholders to maintain a safe and conducive academic environment.
According to him, the Commissioner stressed that effective campus security requires sustained partnership, vigilance and shared responsibility among the police, university authorities, students, staff and other stakeholders.
