The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against child trafficking, arresting a female suspect and rescuing 33 underage girls in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation on January 7, 2026, following a distress report received through the Command Control Room.
Ikenga disclosed that the report was lodged by relatives of three missing girls—Divine Mbam (14), Nwagu Favour (15), and Oke Blessing (18)—who were abducted in Ebonyi State on September 26, 2025, and later sighted at Emma Pigin Road, Aguleri.
He said the operatives stormed the location and arrested Ifeoma Success Anthony, 37, while rescuing the underage victims from the premises.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the building is allegedly being used for child trafficking and prostitution,” Ikenga stated, adding that the property is believed to be owned by Mrs. Ngozi Nnanyelugo, 45, who is currently at large.
The police spokesman assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the principal suspect and unravel the full network behind the criminal operation.
“The Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in protecting vulnerable children and urges members of the public to continue providing useful information,” Ikenga said, noting that further developments would be communicated in due course.
