The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has issued a tough warning to officers against corruption, extortion and unprofessional conduct, declaring that the Nigeria Police Force belongs to the people and must remain accountable to Nigerians.

Addressing officers at the Command Headquarters in Awka on Tuesday, the police chief reaffirmed the zero-tolerance stance of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on misconduct within the Force.

He warned that any officer involved in extortion, abuse of office or actions capable of eroding public trust would face disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.

CP Orutugu also reminded personnel that the presidential directive withdrawing police officers from unauthorised VIP protection duties remains in force, stressing that officers must not be deployed for private engagements without official approval.
