The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 8 Headquarters, Lokoja, AIG Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has called for closer cooperation between the police and traditional institutions to improve security and strengthen trust between law enforcement and communities in Kwara State.
Otimenyin made the call on Thursday, 10th September 2026, when she paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, at his palace in Ilorin.
The visit was part of the AIG’s ongoing Operational Inspection Tour of the Kwara State Police Command.
She was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, and members of the Command Management Team.
During the meeting, the police leadership and the traditional institution discussed the need for stronger collaboration, particularly in sharing useful intelligence, engaging communities and building public confidence in security agencies.
The visit highlighted the important role traditional rulers can play in helping security agencies understand the concerns of people at the grassroots and in encouraging communities to provide timely information that could assist in preventing crime.
It also reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to working with traditional institutions to sustain peace, protect communities and improve public safety across Kwara State.
