In the demanding arena of public communication, particularly within a complex institution like the Nigeria Police Force, it takes an exceptional blend of professionalism, empathy, and courage to stand out.

During his relatively short but remarkably impactful tenure as spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin distinguished himself as one of the most responsive and progressive voices the Force has presented to the Nigerian public in recent times.

At a period when public trust in institutions is constantly tested, ACP Hundeyin brought a refreshing approach to police communication, one anchored on openness, accessibility, and engagement. His strong and strategic social media presence transformed what could have been a routine public relations role into an effective bridge between the police hierarchy and the citizens they serve.

Through timely clarifications, prompt responses to phone calls, and calm explanations, he demonstrated that communication in modern policing must go beyond press statements; it must involve genuine interaction with the public.

Beyond his professional competence, what truly set him apart was his human touch. ACP Hundeyin listened. He paid attention to the concerns raised by citizens, journalists, and civil society actors. On several occasions, when issues of alleged police intimidation in some states were brought to his attention, he never hesitated to intervene, seeking clarification and ensuring that the right authorities were alerted. This willingness to act, rather than merely acknowledge complaints, earned him the respect of many within and outside the media community.

Equally admirable is his detribalized outlook. In a country where ethnic and regional sentiments sometimes threaten national cohesion, ACP Hundeyin stood firmly on the side of fairness and professionalism. His conduct consistently reflected the ideals of a national officer, serving Nigeria without prejudice or bias.

For those of us in the media, particularly those who report on security matters, his tenure brought a sense of reassurance.

It is rare to find a police spokesperson who combines institutional loyalty with the humility to listen and the courage to engage constructively with criticism. ACP Hundeyin embodied that rare balance.

On a personal note, I will deeply miss his responsiveness and his readiness to intervene when the situation demanded. His tenure may have been brief, but its impact will certainly outlive the moment.

As he moves on to other responsibilities within the Force, there is no doubt that the professionalism, discipline, and empathy he displayed as spokesperson will continue to define his career.

Nigeria’s policing system needs more officers in the mould of ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, officers who understand that effective policing begins with trust, transparency, and communication.

His service in this role will be remembered, appreciated, and respected.
