Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a social media message claiming that the bank is shutting down its operations.
The bank, in a statement issued by its management, said the message impersonating its official handle was being circulated on social media platforms and WhatsApp, warning customers and the public to disregard it.
Access Bank assured its customers, partners and other stakeholders that the bank remained safe, financially strong and fully operational across all its subsidiaries.
According to the bank, its services continue to operate seamlessly, while it remains committed to providing customers with quality banking services.
The lender said it was working with relevant regulatory and law enforcement authorities to identify those behind the false message, which it said was intended to cause panic and disrupt business activities.
It warned that appropriate legal action would be taken against those responsible in line with applicable laws and regulations.
Access Bank also reminded members of the public that the creation, publication and dissemination of false information capable of causing public alarm, damaging reputations or undermining confidence in institutions constitute an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The bank urged anyone who receives the fake shutdown notice not to share or forward it, but to disregard the message and rely only on information published through its official and verified communication channels.
It thanked its customers, partners and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence.
