The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected syndicate member over the abduction and killing of a six-year-old girl, according to a statement issued by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga said operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, arrested the suspect, Friday Akonobi, aged 28, in the early hours of January 17, 2026, following credible information.
The police spokesman disclosed that the arrest is linked to the abduction and death of Miss Ozioma Nwankwo, a six-year-old girl.
According to the statement, the victim was abducted on May 10, 2025, from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
SP Ikenga said investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly acted in concert with four other accomplices who are currently on the run.
He stated that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his involvement in the crime.
Ikenga said the suspect claimed that the victim was taken to Enugu State after the abduction.
The police statement alleged that the child was handed over to an Enugu-based alleged native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, also known as “Edey Play” or “Edey Show.”
According to Ikenga, the suspect claimed that he and his accomplices operated as agents for the alleged native doctor, who allegedly paid them ₦1 million for each victim delivered.
He further disclosed that the alleged native doctor has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command.
SP Ikenga said the development has drawn public attention, especially with the circulation of related videos on social media.
He assured that the Command has launched an intensive manhunt for the remaining suspects.
“We will ensure that everyone involved in this crime is brought to justice,” Ikenga stated.
The police spokesman added that further updates would be made available as investigations progress.
