FCT CP Cracks Down on Police Misconduct, Warns Against Harassment of Residents
The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has warned officers against extortion, harassment, and other forms of misconduct, stressing that such actions will not be tolerated under his watch.
Sanusi issued the warning on Friday during an emergency security meeting with Area and Tactical Commanders at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Garki II, Abuja.
According to a statement on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the meeting focused on strengthening security operations, enhancing professionalism, and consolidating gains in crime reduction across the territory.
The CP commended officers for their commitment to duty, noting that crime rates in the FCT have remained relatively low in recent times. However, he urged them to remain vigilant, proactive, and responsive in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on strict adherence to professional conduct.
“He strongly warned against extortion, harassment of members of the public, and all forms of misconduct, emphasizing that such acts will not be tolerated,” the statement read.
Sanusi further directed Area Commanders to pass the instructions to Divisional Police Officers, warning that supervisors would be held accountable for the actions of their subordinates.
To enforce discipline, the CP tasked the Commander, X-Squad, to intensify monitoring and enforcement operations, adding that erring officers would be arrested and face disciplinary action.
The statement also disclosed that all Tactical Teams in the Command have been dissolved and merged into a unified Violent Crime Response Unit to improve coordination in tackling violent crimes.
Sanusi called on residents to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities, while cautioning against provoking officers for the purpose of recording and circulating videos.
