Pipeline Security Boosts Oil Output, Says NNPC
By Goodness Anenih
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has announced a significant increase in Nigeria’s crude oil production, attributing the growth to improved pipeline security across the Niger Delta.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this during a Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipeline Security held at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Ojulari revealed that oil production rose from a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with peak production reaching 1.84 million barrels per day in 2025.
He explained that the achievement was driven by an integrated energy security framework designed to protect critical oil infrastructure and curb disruptions.

According to him, the model combines legislative and executive policy alignment, intelligence gathering, security operations, regulatory oversight, and active collaboration with host communities.
Ojulari noted that the approach has helped to address persistent challenges such as oil theft and pipeline vandalism, which had previously hindered production levels.
He added that the improvement in security has restored investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, creating a more stable environment for growth.
In his remarks, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Jimoh Ibrahim, called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to sustain the gains recorded.
Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, represented by Julius Ihonvbere, urged participants to assess progress made and ensure fairness and equity in the sector.
The roundtable, organised by the Joint Senate and House Committees on Petroleum Resources, brought together key security chiefs, government officials, regulators, and private sector players to review strategies for sustaining pipeline security and boosting production.
