The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has thrown his weight behind a civic enlightenment campaign aimed at sensitising Nigerians on the importance of obtaining, protecting and using their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ojajuni gave the assurance on Thursday, when the Founder of the IyawoAlhaji Itoku Community and Development Initiative, Comrade Oladunni Patricia Sodipo, led members of the organisation on a courtesy visit to the State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
During the visit, the organisation presented the Peace and Service Leadership Award to the police commissioner in recognition of his contributions to peace, security and community policing in Ogun State.
Commending the initiative, Ojajuni described its civic enlightenment campaign as a laudable effort that promotes responsible citizenship and democratic participation.
He particularly praised the organisation’s Operation Protect Your PVC Campaign, themed “From Registration to Protection – PVC Na Your Power”, noting that its objectives were timely as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“We appreciate your fantastic speech loaded with noble objectives, civic responsibilities, leading advocacy, leading enlightenment initiative, especially at this particular time we are on the march to 2027 general elections,” the commissioner said.
He stressed the importance of sustained voter education and assured the organisation of the Command’s support for initiatives capable of promoting civic responsibility and peaceful electoral participation.
Earlier, Sodipo explained that the campaign was designed to educate market women, youths and other community members on the importance of voter registration, safeguarding their PVCs and exercising their voting rights responsibly.
She said the initiative was committed to strengthening grassroots awareness and empowering citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.
Sodipo thanked the commissioner for receiving the delegation despite his tight schedule and for accepting the award in recognition of his service to the state.
The visit, which lasted within the scheduled 20 minutes, was attended by members of the organisation, who wore their signature green “Protect Your PVC” campaign shirts.
The IyawoAlhaji Itoku Community and Development Initiative is a community-based organisation committed to community development and family empowerment through market sensitisation, youth empowerment and civic education.
The organisation said its Operation Protect Your PVC campaign would continue to promote voter awareness and responsible electoral participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
