Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a terrorist attack and recovered a large herd of rustled cattle following a swift response to actionable intelligence in Asarara Kaura community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation has triggered jubilation among residents of the community, who commended the troops for their prompt intervention and efforts to protect lives and livelihoods.
The troops were deployed to the area following intelligence that armed terrorists had infiltrated Asarara Kaura, where they were terrorising residents and forcibly rustling livestock.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops mobilised to intercept the terrorists and prevent them from escaping with the stolen cattle.
The fleeing terrorists were intercepted along the Tambuwal–Gadaichi–Gummi Road axis, where they engaged the troops in an attempt to escape with the livestock.
The troops responded with superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres, forcing the terrorists to flee into the surrounding bushes with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
The terrorists subsequently abandoned the entire herd of rustled cattle, which was recovered by the troops.
The successful intervention brought relief to residents of Asarara Kaura and neighbouring communities, with residents turning out in large numbers to commend the troops for their bravery and prompt response.
The recovered livestock has been secured in military custody pending its formal handover to the Chairman of the Sokoto State Committee on the Recovery of Rustled Animals.
The committee is expected to oversee the verification process and facilitate the return of the cattle to their rightful owners.
The operation underscores the ongoing efforts by troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist and bandit activities, protect rural communities and safeguard the livelihoods of residents in affected areas.
