The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council in Cross River State, Hon. Amb. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, KSJI, has said that the knowledge and practical skills to be acquired from a China-sponsored training programme on food preservation technologies will strengthen Nigeria’s efforts to improve food security, reduce post-harvest losses and enhance agricultural value chains.
Akposi stated this while delivering his opening remarks at the Training Course on New Technologies for Storage, Preservation and Circulation of Fruits and Vegetables under the Global Development Initiative, where he represented Akamkpa Local Government Council, Cross River State, Nigeria.
Addressing participants, the council chairman expressed appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for hosting the programme and for its continued commitment to promoting international cooperation through capacity building and knowledge exchange.
He also commended the China National Research Institute of Food and Fermentation Industries Limited, resource persons and organisers for providing what he described as a valuable platform for developing practical solutions to agricultural challenges confronting developing countries.
According to Akposi, the training is timely as many nations, including Nigeria, are working to strengthen food security, minimise post-harvest losses and promote sustainable agricultural development.
He expressed confidence that the knowledge and practical experience participants would gain during the programme would contribute significantly to improving agricultural value chains, creating economic opportunities and enhancing the well-being of communities.
The Akamkpa council chairman further said he looked forward to learning from the experts facilitating the programme while exchanging ideas with participants from across Africa and other parts of the world to build lasting partnerships that would outlive the training.
Akposi reaffirmed the appreciation of the people of Akamkpa Local Government Area, Cross River State and Nigeria to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its hospitality and commitment to deepening cooperation with developing nations through the Global Development Initiative.
