The Nigeria Police Force has deployed Commissioner of Police Samuel Erale Etaifo as the Commissioner of Police in charge of security for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the deployment is part of the Force’s comprehensive election security strategy aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible governorship poll.
The statement explained that Etaifo would coordinate all election security operations across Osun State in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to safeguard voters, election officials and electoral materials.
It, however, clarified that the substantive Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, would remain in charge of the state command and continue to supervise routine policing activities while providing the necessary administrative and operational support to the Commissioner of Police overseeing the election.
The police also directed all personnel deployed for election duties to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality and strict compliance with the law, including adherence to the Code of Conduct for Security Personnel on Electoral Duty.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, called on residents, political actors and other stakeholders to support efforts towards a peaceful election.
The statement quoted the IGP as urging “members of the public, political actors, and all stakeholders to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and to cooperate fully with security agencies in ensuring a safe, credible, and successful electoral process.”
