Ten members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The victims were among 15 corps members kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
The rescue operation was still ongoing as security forces intensified efforts to locate the remaining five victims and apprehend the suspected kidnappers.
The kidnappers had reportedly demanded N20 million ransom from the families of some of the abducted corps members.
Security authorities urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while appealing for useful information that could assist the ongoing operation.
“The members of the public are urged to remain calm and vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movement or information that could help rescue the remaining victims and arrest the perpetrators,” the authorities said.
The development comes amid renewed security concerns over the safety of travellers along routes linking the Federal Capital Territory and other parts of the country.
