Police, Judo Federation Partner To Boost Officers’ Fitness Nationwide
By Odita Sunday
The drive to strengthen professionalism and physical fitness within the Nigeria Police Force received a fresh push on Thursday as the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, hosted a delegation from the Nigeria Judo Federation at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by the federation’s President, Musa Olakunle Oshodi, visited the police chief to strengthen institutional collaboration and promote physical discipline among police personnel.
During the visit, the federation conferred the title of Life Patron on the IGP in recognition of his appointment as the 23rd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, describing it as a significant milestone for the sporting community.
Discussions at the meeting also centred on plans to deepen sports development within the Force, including proposals for the staging of the 2026 IGP Open Judo Championship across various Police Commands nationwide.

Responding, Disu expressed appreciation for the honour and reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to integrating martial arts and competitive sports into officers’ training programmes.
He noted that improved fitness, discipline and mental resilience remain critical to effective policing and professional conduct among personnel across the country.
