The Delta State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping operation and recovered high-calibre firearms and ammunition during a covert security operation in the Upper Agbarho area of the state.
The breakthrough was disclosed in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, following an intelligence-driven operation by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT).
Edafe stated that operatives acted on credible intelligence indicating that about six suspected kidnappers were sighted along a bush path in Upper Agbarho, allegedly perfecting plans to carry out criminal activities.
According to him, at about 9:35pm on January 11, 2026, CP-SAT operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson and working in collaboration with community vigilantes, launched a well-coordinated covert operation and cordoned off the suspects’ hideout located in an uncompleted building.
“Upon sighting the police operatives, the suspects opened fire,” Edafe said, adding that the operatives responded decisively, forcing the hoodlums to flee with varying degrees of injuries.
He disclosed that the fleeing suspects abandoned their weapons and other incriminating items at the scene.
Exhibits recovered include one FNC rifle loaded with one round of live ammunition, one pump-action gun, and thirty-three rounds of live cartridges.
Edafe said all recovered items have been taken into police custody, while a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Aina Adesola, commended the CP-SAT operatives for their bravery and effective deployment of intelligence.
“The Command remains resolute in denying criminal elements the space to operate, and Delta State will continue to be hostile to all forms of criminality,” the Commissioner said.
