No fewer than 100 residents of Edo State will benefit from free cataract surgeries and comprehensive eye care services under a humanitarian medical outreach organised by the Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation (OLEEF) in collaboration with the Edo State Ministry of Health and the Africa Cataract and Eye Foundation.

‎The medical outreach is scheduled to hold from 10am to 4pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Madona Hall of St. Paul Catholic Church, 30 Airport Road, Benin City.

‎In a statement issued on behalf of the Foundation by Pastor Sylvester Ebhodaghe, the initiative aims to expand access to quality eye care for vulnerable and underserved populations while tackling the growing burden of avoidable blindness caused by cataracts and other preventable eye conditions.

‎The outreach is being organised in honour of Her Royal Highness Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa (the Obarisiuwa N’Erie), a wife of His Royal Majesty, Oba Erediauwa, who passed away on August 20, 2016.

‎To preserve and celebrate her legacy of compassion and community service, the Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation was established seven years later.

‎Aside from the cataract surgeries, 100 free prescription glasses will be provided for school children, while 200 reading glasses will be distributed to adult beneficiaries following eye screening at the event.

‎Beneficiaries will also receive free post-surgery medication as part of the programme.

‎The statement noted that since its establishment, the Foundation has implemented several programmes aimed at supporting the less privileged, including educational support for children, empowerment programmes for rural women and initiatives promoting the welfare of the girl child.

‎The free eye care outreach, according to the organisers, reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to humanitarian service and community development.

‎Members of the public have been encouraged to take advantage of the free medical services, which will be delivered by a team of qualified ophthalmologists and medical volunteers led by Chief Surgeon, Dr. Mejuya Okorodudu.
