The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, Mosuru Issa, and recovered a Toyota Camry allegedly stolen in Lagos State, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said on Saturday.
Babaseyi, in a statement issued on September 12, said the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Mowe Division during a proactive stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the operatives were conducting routine patrol and security checks along the Mowe axis when they flagged down the wine-coloured Toyota Camry.
He said the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and fled in different directions after sighting the police, prompting the operatives to give chase.
“Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected vehicle theft kingpin, Mosuru Issa, ‘m’ aged 28, and recovered a stolen wine-coloured Toyota Camry during a proactive stop-and-search operation along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway,” Babaseyi stated.
The police spokesman said the pursuit led to the arrest of Issa, while the vehicle was secured and recovered, adding that preliminary investigation showed that the car was allegedly stolen from where it was parked in Ojoo, Lagos State.
Babaseyi said efforts were ongoing to locate the owner of the vehicle and arrest the other suspects who escaped from the scene.
He added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, according to Babaseyi, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response.
Babaseyi said the police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and sustained operations aimed at protecting lives and property and disrupting vehicle theft, highway crime and other criminal activities across the state.
The Command, he said, urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the Gateway Shield Toll-Free Line, 0800 000 9111, or the emergency numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464.
Babaseyi further said vehicle owners were advised to adopt basic security measures, including the use of tyre locks, steering locks and other appropriate anti-theft devices, particularly when parking in public or unsecured locations.
