A neighbourly disagreement over the use of a shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja, has landed a woman in custody after she allegedly poured boiling water on another woman, leaving her with serious burns.

FCT Police Command, said the incident occurred on September 4, 2026, following an argument between the two neighbours, identified as Gift Amos and Mrs. Beauty Monday.
According to the Command, Amos reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6, alleging that Monday poured a pot of boiling water on her back during the disagreement.
Preliminary investigation by the police indicated that the dispute began over the use of a portion of the compound shared by the neighbours.
The police said Amos had moved a pot of boiling water from the stove to the section of the compound allocated to her, an action which allegedly angered Monday.
Monday was subsequently accused of removing the pot from the stove and pouring the boiling water on Amos’ back.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for the burns sustained in the incident, according to the police.
The suspect was arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The case was adjourned until September 16, 2026, for hearing.
Reacting to the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD., FCAI, urged residents to exercise restraint when resolving disagreements and avoid resorting to violence or self-help.
Sanusi stressed the importance of using lawful and peaceful channels to resolve disputes, warning residents against allowing minor disagreements to escalate into acts of violence.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
