Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, have arrested a 40-year-old man and recovered an AK-47 rifle and three rounds of live ammunition in Adamawa State.
The suspect, identified as Alhaji Gayi Ibrahim Yahaya, a resident of Toungo Local Government Area of the state, was arrested on August 25, 2026, following intelligence linking him to a suspected criminal network allegedly operating across Adamawa and Taraba states.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCID, Abuja, SP Funmi Eguavoje, the operation followed credible intelligence received by the police on March 5 concerning the alleged possession of AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons by members of the suspected criminal network.
She said the intelligence prompted SWAT operatives to commence discreet investigations and intelligence-led operations, which eventually led to Yahaya’s arrest.
Eguavoje said one AK-47 rifle with breech number S-47275 and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect during the operation.
She disclosed that the suspect was assisting investigators with useful information as detectives continued to unravel the circumstances surrounding his possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The FCID spokesperson added that investigators were also working to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly connected to the criminal network.
She said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to dismantling criminal networks, recovering illegal arms and ammunition and preventing violent crimes across the country.
Eguavoje urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to the police, stressing that intelligence from citizens remained crucial to the success of intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent crime.
She assured that further developments would be communicated to the public as investigations progress.
